Five Things Every Homeschooling Parent Should Know
Making the leap to homeschool is a big decision.  It conjures excitement about the potential and anxieties about the realities.  Whether you are new to homeschooling or a veteran, the”5 things” that will be discussed in this talk will serve as both inspiration and a point of reflection on what we need to be constantly conscious of when taking on the responsibility of educating at home.

Discussing the New Health Curriculum
Farrah Marfatia is the principal of Maingate Islamic Academy, and the author of, “How to Talk to your Muslim Child: About Topics in the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Health Education Curriculum”. She has taken on the ownership of educating families about the New Health Curriculum being implemented in September. She will discuss the plans of the education system, what children will be exposed to this academic year, and the challenges facing the Muslim community.

Why would anyone homeschool through high school and how in the world would they do it? What Does the Research Say About Homeschooling?
Paul Faris, a lawyer and the director of HSLDA and will be available all day to answer any legality questions regarding homeschooling.

Homeschooling: Overcoming the fears & Challenges
Living in a society where homeschooling is not the norm, there are fears to overcome and challenges along the way that Elizabeth Y. Hanson, a veteran homeschooler, will discuss and provide solutions for. There will be ample time for questions and answers too. (Also touching on: why school is not an option and the need to understand this if you are going to succeed in homeschooling)

TMH Conference 2014

The Toronto Muslim Homeschoolers (TMH) is an organization which provides support to Muslim homeschooling families in Toronto and the GTA.
TMH began in 2006 with 10 families and has now grown to over 200 families. We continue to develop a support network which will enrich each family’s unique approach to homeschooling through the continuous exchange of ideas and resources. We also endeavour to promote Homeschooling by informing the community of its’ many rewarding benefits.
Join us at our Annual TMH Homeschooling Conference:

Michael Reist

Michael Reist is a teacher with over 28 years of experience in the Ontario school system, and he and his wife homeschooled their four children through elementary school. Michael has been a mentor to many homeschooled kids and a consultant to many homeschooling parents. He is the author of “Raising Boys In A New Kind Of World”, “The Dysfunctional School: Uncomfortable Truths and Awkward Insights on School, Learning and Teaching”, and “What Every Parent Should Know About School”.

Gengiz Ali

Gengiz Ali is a public high school teacher with 7 years of experience teaching in both the Toronto and Peel district school boards. For the past 5 years, he’s also led a youth mentorship initiative for Muslim high school students in his local community. He currently homeschools with his wife and 4 children.
